Caring for the Karen/Burmese
Community Servants has been involved in offering English as a Second Languauge to refugees from Burma (Myanmar) from a number of years. In May of 2008 we committed to the oversight of a ministry that provides transportation, food, ESL and other services to more than 100 of these refugees. 10 families of Karen now live in the Wherry Housing Community (2009).
Almost all of these refugees are from the Karen people group. This people group has been struggling with persecution, atrocities, and repeated attempts of genocide by the dictatorships which have run the country of Myanmar.
